Stair treads, risers and nosing installed to match the new floor — the slowest, most detailed part of most projects.
Stairs take longer per square foot than any other part of a flooring project, and it is not close. Every tread is measured on its own because almost no staircase is perfectly consistent from top to bottom.
Most of the stair work we do in South Florida is carpet coming out and plank or matching tread going in. That means pulling carpet, tack strip and hundreds of staples, then checking the stringers and treads underneath before anything is fitted.
The nosing is where a stair job is judged. The leading edge has to be secure, consistent in overhang and matched in color to the main floor, and it has to be fixed properly because it takes the most wear in the house.
Landings, winder steps and open-sided staircases each need their own template. We plan those before ordering material so there is enough of the right profile rather than a substitution at the last two steps.

FAQ
Stairs & Treads questions
- Can my LVP or laminate be used on the stairs?
- Often yes, using a matching stair-nose profile from the same product line. Not every product offers one, and some are better suited to treads than others. We confirm what is available for your specific material before the scope is finalized.
- Why do stairs cost more than the main floor?
- Because they are priced per step, not per square foot. Each tread and riser is measured, cut and fitted individually, and the prep after carpet removal is slow work. We give you a per-step figure in the written estimate so nothing is hidden.
- Can we use the stairs during the work?
- Usually only in stages. In a single-staircase home we plan the sequence and cure times so the stairs are passable when you need them — tell us during the estimate if that is a constraint.
